Volunteer Opportunities

The following are areas in which volunteers are always needed:

Kids Kloset Consignment Store:
This service provides a means for military and associate members to consign items for cash as well as purchase! We accept items such as children’s clothing, toys, children’s accessories and maternity wear. When your items are sold we retain 20% of the total and pay you the remaining 80% of the sale! Cha-Ching! This store is completely managed and run by volunteers and we are always looking for people to join our team. The Kids Kloset Staff also oversees the Baby Equipment and Toy Lending Libraries.

Baby Equipment Lending Library:
The Baby Equipment Lending Library is a program that can be utilized by all military personnel. We have items available for you to sign out for a 2-week period. Our library includes strollers, exersaucers, car seats, a high chair, a booster seat, playpens, and a queen size air mattress...and more! There will be a $5 fee and a $25 deposit (1-2 items) or a $10 fee and a $50 deposit (3-4 items). The deposit is fully refundable as long as the item is returned in the same condition. These items are often very useful for families visiting, families posted or on house hunting trips. You can see a catalogue of our items at the Kids Kloset, located on the lower floor of the Fitness Sport and Recreation Complex.

Toy Lending Library:
This program provides an opportunity for individuals to sign out up to three toys for their children for a 2 week period. There is only a small fee of $5 per year for your membership required. This is an excellent opportunity to have access to a wide variety of toys without having to spend a lot of money. It also gives you a chance to “test drive” a toy before you purchase it. We have many toys in the Library. You can view the items available in a catalogue at the Kids Kloset Consignment Store as well as at the receptionist desk at the MFRC.

Board of Directors:
The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the MFRC and is responsible to the Military Community. As a member of this volunteer Board, a Director is a trustee for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Members of the Board provide guidance, support and direction to the Executive Director to set overall policy and establish long-term goals of the MFRC. Volunteer positions on the Board are often available throughout the year.

The Board of Directors is comprised of 51% military spouses, and the balance is to be from the military and civilian community. In addition, several ex-officio positions (non-voting) are appointed for their expertise. Volunteers who wish to be part of the Board of Directors need only to have an interest in the work of the MFRC and be willing to participate in monthly meetings to discuss current and ongoing issues relating to the MFRC. As a member of the Board, you will set policies that are in line with our mission and vision, and that of the national Military Family Services Program (MFSP). As well, as a Board member you will have a voice in how services are delivered in your community through the resource centre.

Special Events Committee:
The MFRC plans many special events throughout the year organized by a fantastic and dynamic group of individuals who are all volunteers! The primary focus of this committee is to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate special events for the MFRC. The events will include, but are not limited to:

The Special Events Committee has loads of fun and they are always in need of new members.

Adult Program Committee:
This committee is responsible for directing the Personal Development Coordinator by providing input in the adult program menu. This advisory committee will often assist with setting up for workshops, contacting and recruiting workshop facilitators. The committee meets a couple of hours a month to plan for the next program calendar. All that is required to become pat of this dynamic team is the desire to have fun! We are always looking to add new and different programs to our schedule, so if you have an idea or would like to be part of the committee please give us a call.

Welcome Committee:
This committee’s main focus is to welcome and assist new families to 15 Wing Moose Jaw. This committee works along side the Information Referral Coordinator to develop innovative ways to make adjusting to a new home and environment an easy and positive experience. If you are interested in greeting our new community members please bring us your ideas and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Children and Youth Programs:
Opportunities always exist in all of our Child and Youth Programs. The following is a list of program areas that would more than welcome the assistance of energetic volunteers!

Tumbleweeds Bilingual Pre-school
The Pre-school often requires the assistance of volunteers to help prepare crafts and other activities for the children. This is a wonderful experience and the teachers and the students always appreciate the extra hands! The smile’s you will receive are all the evidence needed to prove what a positive impact volunteers have on this program.

ELC Casual Childcare (ages 0 to 5)
Volunteers are always welcome to assist the staff with activities at our casual childcare centre. If you love to spend time with babies we are often in need of “baby huggers” – valued volunteers that assist the staff with the extra attention babies require! If you are interested in spending some time with the little ones please give us a call!

Parents & Tots
This is an ongoing program where parents and their children (ages 0-5) can enjoy the company of other Moms or Dads and take part in planned activities. Volunteers are needed to facilitate circle time, snacks & crafts.

Youth/Teen Centre
There are always opportunities to help out with our youth programs. We often need volunteers to assist with out trips, special activities or in the program in general. Even if you can only help out once in a while or would like to volunteer on a regular basis-we could use you!

Office Administration:
We have a very busy Centre and often times there is more work to do than hours in the day! These opportunities vary, but are always very rewarding and greatly appreciated by staff and the community. Each Tuesday morning, a volunteer is needed to work at the reception desk from 10am to 12 noon. If you have background in office administration or would like to learn we would love to have you!

We realize that making the commitment to volunteer can be a big decision; however, it can also be a very rewarding experience. You will meet new people and learn new skills, while providing support, assistance and guidance in regard to meeting our national mandate. Additionally, as a result of your involvement, you will assist the organization in ensuring our programs and services fully meet the unique needs of our community.

Our dedicated staff and Board members are here to assist you with any questions and support you so that your experience is a positive one!
