Second Language Services
FALL Session 2009
The fall session is due to commence Monday September 21st. The courses to run are yet to be finalized as they are based on enrolment but at this time we are planning for: Beginner English, Intermediate English, Beginner French, Module 2-3 French and Module 5-6 French.
Please stop by the MFRC or call 694-2222 ext 5316 if you have any questions or would like to enrol.
Java Jase
In addition to language courses the French conversation group Java Jase will resume in October. Java Jase is a fantastic opportunity for those of you learning French to practice and reinforce the material you are learning in class or for those of you looking for a chance to brush up your conversational skills with a fun group of people over a bit of java! The Java Jase group’s first meeting will be Tuesday October 13th 7-9pm upstairs in the MFRC/PSP kitchen. Hope to see you there!
Language Swap
A new addition to the language program this fall is the Language Swap we are hoping to introduce a bit later in the fall. The Language Swap will be an opportunity for interested French and English speakers to gather at the MFRC over sweets and tea and coffee to share their knowledge with one another in what will essentially be an organized tutoring session amongst peers with the potential for a lot of great learning and conversation!
Classes
Depending on enrolment MFRC offers two English classes and two French classes per session. Presently three sessions a year have been running, Fall-Sept. to Dec., Winter-Jan.-Mar., Spring-Apr.-June. Classes run 6 hours a week either in the morning or afternoon. In the past the demand has been for daytime classes, although if there is a need for an evening class that can be considered. A minimum of 5 students is required for each class with a maximum of 10.
Cost
A ten-week session costs $60.00 for military spouses and 15 Wing affiliates; $90, which includes the cost of texts and materials. Military spouses who attend 85% of the course will get a full refund.
Students
Our classes for the most part consist of military spouses or partners. Once we have sufficient numbers to run a class, we welcome non-military people from the base or from Moose Jaw.
Staff
The reality of military life means that our staffs are constantly changing. The MFRC has always been fortunate in having highly professional and qualified people interested in teaching in our second language program.
Registration
Registration can be made over the phone at 694-2222 ext.5316 or by coming in person to the MFRC. Cash or personal cheques made out to the MFRC will be accepted.
The Rosetta Stone Language Lab
The MFRC is happy to offer a new way to learn both French and English! The Rosetta Stone is an interactive program which incorporates the four strands of language acquisition – reading, writing, speaking and listening. The program is installed on the community-use computers but requires a disk available at the front desk. Come in and try out this individual approach adaptable to your own schedule.
